India’s ICC T20 World Cup Squad

India is a country with billions of cricket lovers, and we see new talented individuals showing up every other day in various domestic leagues. These domestic leagues give them a chance to these players to showcase their talent, and this is a gateway to international cricket for them. Selecting the best 15 for the World Cup from the pool of the best players in the country is quite a task for the selectors and the Board of Indian Cricket. Various factors are taken into consideration while selecting these players to ensure the best are selected to represent the nation.

The Indian squad led by Captain Rohit Sharma is a 14-member squad that reached Australia on the 6th of October 2022, The 15th member was supposed to be Jasprit Bumhra has been ruled out due to a back injury he is suffering from, and unfortunately, he won’t be able to be a part of the tournament this year. The squad consist of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Risabh Pant, Dinesh Kartik, Deepak Hooda, Axar Patel, Hardik Pandya, R Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, Arsdeep Singh, Harshal Patel, K L Rahul. The 15th member of the squad is yet to be announced that will be replacing Jasprit Buhmra, which could be one of the standby players, which are Mohmmad Shami, Depak Chahar, Ravi Bishnoi and Shreyas Iyer. It looks like quite a balanced squad built by Team India and shows the spirit they are here with is of “We are here to Win”, that is what Kapil Dev used to say during the interviews of the 1983 World Cup, and they did lift the cup that year. Lets’ see if Rohit and his Squad can pull the same in 2022.

The players seem excited about the World Cup as they’ve arrived in Australia and shared pictures on their social media handles. The star batsman Suryakumar Yadav who has been performing exceptionally has shared a picture of him with the captain Rohit Sharma and the wicket-keeper duo Risabh Pant & Dinesh Kartik with the caption that he’s Excited, Nervous, But so so Motivated!… He probably has been listening to the song “Alone” by Alan Walker that goes like “I know I am not alone…” and they definitely aren’t alone as they have billions of fans supporting them from all around the world, we will see it all as the tournament begins.
